1. What’s your story? Where are you from?

My name is Ana Luiza. I’m Brazilian. I was born in Bahia and I’ve been living in Rio for 6 years. I have a degree in dentistry and I’ve been drawing since childhood. I decided to become a dentist because I thought it would be too hard to earn a living as an artist in Brazil.

In 2018, I returned to drawing frequently and posting on Instagram. Over time I started to accumulate followers and receive requests for work. With the pandemic, I stopped working as a dentist and dedicated full time to my art.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I like to draw women interacting with nature. When I was a child, I used to draw girls in their daily lives, therefore, it is the theme I draw best.

I’m inspired a lot by the nature that is around me. Beaches and tropical plants. So I use a lot the colors blue and green in my palette.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

I have been using Procreate to illustrate. I like this program because it’s easy to use. Before I used to draw with HB pencils, nankim ink, Posca and Molotow pens and I painted a little bit with acrylic. I connected with digital art because it allows me to use a variety of brushes and textures using a digital pencil. That is the tool that I have mastered.

4. What is your artistic process like?

Many times when I’m inspired I see the drawing ready in my mind. Other times I see an image on the street, in a movie or a photo and I feel like drawing that.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

I’ve always been a big fan of the painter Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. I’m also inspired by Brunna Mancuso and Bijou Karman. I like the painters Jean Julien and Guim Tió very much.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

Art is essential in my life. All of the different types of art. Music, Cinema, Visual Art.

For a long time, I repressed the artist that I am. This caused me a lot of anguish. Now I feel relief that I returned to art. I feel free.

Art doesn’t really change the way I see the world because I think I see the world through art.

7. Where did you study?

I studied dentistry at the Federal University of Bahia. I also studied Styling and Images for fashion at SENAC Bahia and a course in drawing at Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

I’d like to be studying art and travel the world.

9. What about in ten?

I hope to be an experienced and recognized artist.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

Recognition. Big commissions and financial stability.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

I’m an introverted person but I like having friends around me. I like to travel, to be in nature, to know new cultures and places. I love living near the beach. This is a real necessity for me. I have lots of different favorite foods. Seafood, Pizza, Japanese.

Amor nos Tempos do Cólera – Gabriel García Marquez

13. Favourite genre of music?

14. What are your hobbies?

15. If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?
