1. What’s your story? Where are you from?
Hello, my name is Agnezia Zefanya but you can call me Anya because that is how my family and my friend call me since I was a little kid. I’m an illustrator from Indonesia. My story started when I was 3 years old I guess, I don’t really remember hehe. At that age, I was already able to hold a pen or pencil just like any other toddler haha then I started to draw everywhere around the house. I would draw all over the wall and because of that my mom bought me a sketchbook and watercolors for kids, of course, hehe then I started to fall in love with it. I kept drawing every day until today. I always loved drawing and crafting since I was young. I remember back then, whenever I watch Teletubbies or twinnies and I saw them drawing something or creating something, I would immediately recreate it after the show is done hehehe. Oh I miss the old days ☹️ but I guess that’s where I started my journey as an illustrator now the difference is I share it with the world.
2. Tell us about your aesthetic.
Well, it’s hard actually because my aesthetic will always be evolving but I guess I would describe it as soft, simple and tidy(?) because I love everything tidy like how everything needs to be symmetrical and clean I guess haha. I try to loosen up a little bit now because I just want to have fun sometimes.
3. What is your favourite medium and why?
Right now, I would say digital, because I draw digitally most of the time. But I draw traditionally a lot before and I’ve always wanted to try some other medium too, like gouache! I think it would be great to try it someday so don’t be surprised if I start to share some illustrations in gouache.
4. What is your artistic process like?
Well… I think I would start doodling then I would find one of my doodlings that is fun and turn it into a scene. Then I start to make the sketch. I always sketch traditionally actually because I just love the feeling of drawing on paper, nothing is better than that…. ♥️ and I would take a picture of it, and start to draw it digitally
5. Who and/or what inspires your work?
I think just like any other kid, I grew up watching Disney. So yeah, Disney is one of them, I love how they draw the backgrounds, it’s so beautiful ♥️ And then, I would say Sha’an d’anthes (@furrylittlepeach), Sara Faber (@sarafaber_), and Fran Meneses (@frannerd) also Lee Kyu Young (@gyung_studio) are one of those amazing artists that inspire me a lot to keep on drawing and share it to others.
6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?
Whoooaaa this is hard to answer because I’ve never really thought of this before but… let me think.. I think whenever I see people I started to look at them as a shape because right now I trying to get better at drawing figures so… I think that is the role that art does in my life at the moment hehe
7. Where did you study?
I didn’t go to an art school actually so I learnt to illustrate by myself. I watch tons of tutorial videos since I was in high school, I also tried so many different art styles haha. But right now, I kinda stick with flat illustration because it’s simple but still fun! You just need good colors to play with it to make it looks alive.
8. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Wowww, I’m not the kind of person who thinks about this kind of thing, but I think it’s okay to have a good dream hehe. I think in 5 years, I would love to make a storybook for kids and I also wanna do something good with it so it’s not like I’m just gonna sell it but I want to make a book for people who are in need. The people who lack the access to get or buy a storybook because I think to be able to read since you are really young is really important so I wish I could do that.
9. What about in ten?
Hohoho, I don’t know. I really wish I’m still passionate about being an illustration because you will never know what would happen in life but.. I really wish I could be a great wife, a great mom, and a great illustrator.
10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?
This is also hard to answer hehe because I started doing art because I love to draw. It makes me happy doing it and I’ve never thought about being known for my art this fast. I thought people would start noticing me like in 5 years but I’m so thankful that there’s 10K of people on Instagram supporting me right now ♥️♥️ But what I hope to achieve is to work happily, because I’m doing what I love so I hope I would always feel so happy while doing it and hoping that people would be happy to see my works 🥰
11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?
This is really hard hah because I love to eat so can’t choose but I really love Asian food I guess because I’m Asian. I love food that has lots of spices and has a strong flavor but I also love western food a lot hehe.
12. Favourite book?
I don’t really like to read actually but I love biography books of the people that I admire. One of them is “I am Malala”, she’s amazingggg!!!
13. Favourite genre of music?
It depends on my mood, maybe the music that goes with what I feel by when I listen to it haha
14. What are your hobbies?
Drawing is my original hobby, it’s an OG haha but since it has become my job right now, my hobby is crafting, I love knitting and to do crochet. I also love to cook and bake so I think those are my hobbies right now.
15. If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?
A potter? Hehe or a knitter, just something that has something to do with my hobbies hehe
